About
Puzzles made by engine, checked like proofs.
Supriyash Puzzles is an independent puzzle publisher. Our books carry the author name Supriyash; the puzzles in them, and the puzzles we make for others, come from engines we built ourselves.
How a puzzle is made
Four steps, every time.
Generate
Our own engine builds each grid. No puzzle is made by hand, and none is taken from anyone else.
Prove
An exhaustive search confirms the grid has exactly one solution. A search that times out is a failure.
Grade
A grader solves it with documented human techniques and sets the grade by the hardest one it needed. No logical finish, no puzzle.
Record
The puzzle is entered in a permanent ledger, which refuses to let it, or a rotated, reflected or renumbered copy of it, be used again.
The twelve types
What we make today.
Every type below is in our published books, at grades from Easy to Master. Each page prints its rule in full; here they are in brief.
- Classic
- Every row, column and 3 × 3 box holds 1 to 9 once.
- Sudoku X
- Both long diagonals also hold 1 to 9 once.
- Windoku
- Four extra shaded 3 × 3 squares also hold 1 to 9 once.
- Jigsaw
- The nine boxes are irregular shapes instead of squares.
- Even/Odd
- Marked cells must hold an even or an odd digit.
- Killer
- Digits in each cage add up to the cage's total, with no repeats.
- Thermo
- Digits rise along each thermometer from the bulb.
- Sandwich
- Clues give the sum of the digits between the 1 and the 9.
- Greater-Than
- Arrows between cells point at the smaller digit.
- Kropki
- Black dots mark a double, white dots consecutive digits.
- Wordoku
- Nine letters instead of digits; one row spells a keyword.
- Symbol
- Nine marks instead of digits, keyed below the grid.
